Abandoning Wisdom: Prop 1 and Lindsay Clancy

There are a couple of things going on right now that have grabbed the attention of Idahoans. One of them is taking place on a state level, and the other is national news. Both matter and are the subject of this short post.

The first is the promotion of Proposition 1, a piece of legislation that, if passed, will bring a wholehearted embracing of clinical abortions into Idaho, this "reddest" of states.
The second item is the recently-declared mistrial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts woman who admitted to strangling her three young children in the name of "postpartum psychosis." Somehow, despite a clear confession, the jury refused to find her guilty.

The two items are closely connected. First, they both revolve around the sanctity (or lack thereof) of human life. But that's just on the surface. Underneath, when you pop open the hood and consider what is really going on, you'll see that both of these items are the natural consequence of the insanity we have embraced as a nation over the past few generations. I am talking about the wicked philosophy of feminism. We took the medicine, and now we are acting shocked at the side affects.

Consider the typical , conservative reactions we have observed and voiced over these issues. "Abortion made legal in Idaho? There is no way. We are the most conservative state! We are the great holdout of conservative values, aren't we? How is this possible?"

"That Lindsay Clancy is a murderer, plain and simple. No jury in their right mind will let her off the hook. Right is right, and I believe common sense will win out."

The problem is, it hasn't. Common sense has been left behind long ago. You can still find vestiges of it if you rummage through the ranks of unknown, country churches, or can find it still held onto by some smalltown politician in a town or county with little to no influence.

Proposition 1 and the Lindsay Clancy travesty are abhorrent, wicked, and detestable, but they are not shocking. They are not shocking because they are the natural and unavoidable consequence of what we have asked for as a culture and nation. We asked for feminism, and now we are dealing with the extreme outworking of it.

First, let's avoid a shallow understanding of feminism. I am obviously against it in a wholehearted way. "Doesn't that mean you are against women?" Not at all, and to think so reveals a wrong understanding of what feminism is. Feminism is a cancerous scheme that seeks to destroy any distinctions between the sexes. It is about both women and men, and it touches every part of a culture. To understand feminism as "partly ok" because, after all, "Isn't feminism just about equality for women?" No, it isn't. In fact, feminism is just about the most anti-woman scheme the devil could create. It tells the woman that she is interchangeable with any man and that her God-given nature, responsibilities, and tendencies are to be suppressed and replaced with pursuits that are not suited to her. Feminism catechizes men to believe that their own, masculine traits are some kind of mistake of the cosmos, and that any kind of male rule and leadership should be subdued. Feminism takes the spines out of men and attempts to awkwardly transplant them into women. Feminism is forced, it is backwards, and it is always detrimental.

Most pertinent to the moment at hand, feminism has trained the American populace to believe that fulfillment for a woman may come at any cost. No price is too high, and as a woman claws her way to achieve her dreams, she cannot be held responsible for any casualties she leaves in her wake.

Survey social media if you don't believe me. Women are encouraged and praised when they leave behind their husbands or children to "find themselves" or "chase their dreams."
Domestic life is viewed as a prison from which they must break free, rather than the filling of a glorious role (Titus 2:3-5).
There is a social media trend encourage the woman to "shout your abortion" as she is liberated from that pesky responsibility of giving life and nurturing children. By the way, if women are mothering children at all, they are having fewer children than any time in our nation's history and are starting much later in life, with one in five American women now having their first child after age 35.

In other words, our toxic empathy has left the population terrified at the notion of ever telling a woman "No", even in the most outrageous scenarios. So we see the 125-pound lady hired onto the fire department rather than the 210-pound man, even though she is far less capable of dragging an unconscious adult from a burning home. We see Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) departments formed within all kinds of institutions to ensure that a high ratio of women are hired and promoted - not for the sake of efficiency or mission effectiveness, but to appease the feminist "gods" of the age.

Now, back to Proposition 1 and Lindsay Clancy.
Here is why we have no room for shock at these two travesties:
In the name of feminism, we have been encouraging women to murder their children for decades.
Rather than fighting for the rights of children and holding murderers accountable, we have created a class of citizens who are free to murder their children. We have granted killers total immunity and impunity. Even if Proposition 1 fails (and I pray it fails), every woman in the State of Idaho can still receive child-killing drugs through the mail, and she can do it completely legally.

Lindsay Clancy murdered her children. This is a fact she has admitted, yet because of our cultural commitment to affirm women (even and especially in their sin), we scramble to make excuses for her. "Her hormones were a little off." "She was sleep deprived." "She didn't have the emotional support she needed."

Can you imagine if the roles were different? Imagine a man violently assaulting a woman in an alleyway. What would we think if we heard arguments like this to defend him:
"It was his hormones. His testosterone is to blame, and he can't be held accountable."
"He clearly was emotionally starved and can't be held responsible for his actions."
"He needs support and counsel, not punishment. He clearly was going through a lot."

Laughable, right? That man would be condemned after a speedy trial (and rightfully so). But Lindsay Clancy? Hers was just declared a mistrial, because there was a SINGLE juror who held out and insisted on her guilt while the eleven others were all prepared to bow the knee to acceptability and cultural pressure.

Folks, this short post is not meant to lead anyone to give up the fight. Just the opposite. We have a lot of work to do in undoing the mistake of feminism. Vote against Proposition 1, Idaho. Demand justice for the three precious Clancy children. Return to biblical morality and common sense. My point is this: if we don't diagnose the current moment rightly, we will not see a clear path forward. Sin is the fundamental problem, but sin usually has a name. Right now its name is feminism. The cure is a fervency for biblical truth, especially regarding men and women and justice. As always, the first battles are won around the dinner table. Let's move out from there, and let's abandon our unfounded fear of the culture.

Let us fear God rather than men (and women).
